Check an IBAN Before You Send Money

A single wrong digit in an IBAN can send a transfer back or hold it up for days. The QodeCat IBAN Validator checks every IBAN you paste, one per line, and tells you clearly whether it is valid and, if not, why.

  • Country and length: Checked against the official length for each of the 89 countries in the SWIFT IBAN registry.
  • Checksum: The ISO 13616 mod-97 check catches almost every typo and swapped digit.
  • Clear reasons: For example "Wrong length for TR: expected 26" or "Checksum failed".
  • Details: Formatted IBAN in groups of four, country name and check digits, plus the bank code for TR, DE, ES, GB, FR, NL and IT (and the bank name for major Turkish banks).

Why use this tool?

Nothing Is Sent Anywhere

Bank details are sensitive. Many online IBAN checkers send what you type to their server. This one does every check in your browser with JavaScript, so your IBANs never leave your device.

Many IBANs at Once

Paste a whole column from a spreadsheet. Spaces are allowed, upper and lower case both work, and each line gets its own result.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Does a valid IBAN mean the account exists?

No. A valid IBAN is correctly formed and passes the checksum. Only the bank can confirm that the account exists and who owns it.

Q. How does the IBAN check work?

The first four characters are moved to the end, letters are replaced with numbers (A = 10 … Z = 35), and the resulting number must leave a remainder of 1 when divided by 97. The length must also match the country.

Q. Which countries show a bank code?

Turkey, Germany, Spain, the United Kingdom, France, the Netherlands and Italy. For Turkey the 5-digit bank code is also matched to the bank name for the largest banks; other codes are shown without a name.
