Free Online Word & Character Counter

QodeCat Word Counter gives you live statistics as you type or paste. It is built for writers, students, marketers and developers who need to hit a word limit, fit a character budget or check how long a text takes to read.

  • Words, characters (with and without spaces), sentences, paragraphs and lines.
  • Reading time at 238 words per minute and speaking time at 150 words per minute.
  • Top keywords, so you can spot repetition and check keyword density.
  • Character limits for X/Twitter, Instagram captions, meta descriptions and title tags.

Why use this tool?

Accurate for every language

Words are split with the browser's built-in language-aware segmenter, so Turkish, accented and non-Latin text is counted correctly. Characters are counted the way people see them: an emoji like a waving hand with a skin tone counts as one character, not four.

Private and saved locally

Your text never leaves your browser. It is saved on this device only, so a page reload does not lose your draft. Press Clear to remove it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How is reading time calculated?

We divide the word count by 238 words per minute, the average silent reading speed for adults. Speaking time uses 150 words per minute, a typical presentation pace.

Q. Why does my X/Twitter count differ slightly?

X counts every link as 23 characters and some scripts (such as Chinese or Japanese) as two. Our indicator counts visible characters, so treat it as a close guide for posts with links.

Q. Which words are ignored in Top keywords?

Common filler words in English, Turkish, German, Spanish, French and Portuguese (like "the", "and", "ve", "und", "que", "des"), numbers and words shorter than three letters are skipped, so the list shows the words that actually describe your text.
